Gesher School
Education Director
Congregation Dor Hadash, San Diego’s only Reconstructionist synagogue, is searching for an Education Director. We are a unique congregational school serving a community of approximately 150 families. By incorporating parent/child classes several times a year, our program emphasizes dynamic family education. An overwhelming majority of our post b’nai mitzvah teens continue their commitment to the Gesher School by volunteering to help on Sunday mornings. This job is great for someone who likes to work collaboratively and who has a creative vision for congregational education in the 21st century. The ideal candidate would:
- Have a broad knowledge of Jewish learning as evidenced by a Masters Degree in Jewish Education or commensurate experience
- Have supervisory and programming experience
- Be the Gesher School’s resource for Reconstructionist values in training teachers and supporting families
- Have a warm and welcoming personality
The Education Director is responsible for:
- Overall supervision of the Gesher School, which includes:
- Handling personnel matters
- Developing and administering the school budget
- Determining curriculum and new Gesher School programming
- Developing and maintaining selected teen programming
- Marketing the program to the larger Jewish community.
- Being an educational resource and advisor to Gesher parents
- Assisting the rabbi where needed, including in the b’nai mitzvah program
- Supporting the congregation’s larger vision and long-term goals
- Acting as the congregation’s representative to the Agency for Jewish Education, and the greater San Diego Jewish community
- Attending staff meetings, Education Committee meetings, and Board of Trustees meetings
- Being the liaison between the synagogue and the education department of the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation.
