Juneteenth Shabbat at Dor Hadash

June 19th — also known as Juneteenth — is the day recalling the above proclamation that reached enslaved Black folks in the western reaches of American chattel slavery. This year, Congregation Dor Hadash will be holding a special Shabbat service commemorating Juneteenth. In a time of brutal attacks on Black, Queer, and Jewish Americans, there’s never been a better time to join together in celebration of the honor of all people, all created in the Divine image.

Jordan Daniels (He/They) is a Queer Black and Jewish creative who has supported and served San Diego county’s LGBTQ+ community for over a decade. From attending programs and volunteering at the North County LGBTQ Resource Center, to helping lead the GSA at MiraCosta College as it built the “Queer Corner” in the Student Union, raised money for its endowed scholarship program, and produced the school’s first-ever drag show, Jordan has been deeply committed to the community.
Jordan obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism at CSU Long Beach, where his lens of social justice and equity evolved through his storytelling, community service, and social media activism. Upon graduation, Jordan began working within San Diego’s Jewish community, and volunteering in the Black Queer and Trans community.
Today, Jordan lives in Hillcrest, serving Jews of Color and LGBTQ+ Jews around the country, and continues supporting San Diego’s Black Queer and Trans community as President of San Diego Black Pride. He remains dedicated to serving the community through in-person programs as well as through social media education and conversations at @johodaniels. He also is the co-host of the award-winning iHeartMedia’s show BFF: Black Fat Femme Podcast, which facilitates incredible dialogue with some of the country’s most vibrant Black Queer and Trans changemakers, media figures, and community members.
