HIGH HOLY DAYS 5780
L’Shanah Tovah!
Celebrate the Jewish New Year and observe the Day of Atonement with Congregation Dor Hadash as we cut through all the noise of the world in order to hear the deepest yearnings of the heart. Rabbi Yael Ridberg and members of our congregation lead services that uplift, inspire, and challenge each of us to grow and heal. Rejuvenation, inspiration, celebration!
Rosh Hashanah (Day 1 and Day 2) and Yom Kippur services will be held upstairs in the library at SDJA, 11860 Carmel Creek Road in Carmel Valley. Although there is on-site parking (do not turn at the light at the Shaw Ridge and Carmel Creek Road, but go up the hill and turn into the driveway on the right). We do encourage carpooling or ride share such as Lyft and Uber; however, ride share drivers will have to drop you off and pick you up at the gate.
Selihot
Saturday, September 21, 7:00 p.m. Join Rabbi Yael Ridberg and Ely Freedman for the service that opens the musical, liturgical and spiritual gates of the Yamim Noraim--The High Holy Days. Enter the week leading up to the High Holy Days with music, reflection, and conversation. First timers especially invited!
During the service we will screen a conversation with Derek Black, the son of a grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, the once heir apparent of the white nationalist movement who renounced the hate filled ideology of his family and community.
A story of profound change and transformation, it is also the story of the real courage shown by people who invested themselves in trying to shift from the darkness of hatred and ignorance to the light of understanding and connection. You can read about Derek's story (search online Derek Black) and about Eli Saslow's remarkable book about Derek Black, Rising Out of Hatred.
Please RSVP here, and bring a dessert to share.

Look for containers when you come to services on Yom Kippur. Needed are canned fruit, vegetables, canned chicken, salmon, cereal, soup, pasta, and other nutritious non-perishable items. We ask for your continued generosity in helping our San Diego neighbors who are hungry.
MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger
The Corners of Our Fields is a joint effort of the Conservative, Reform, and Reconstructionist movements and Hillel International to collect nonperishable food for local charities and funds for MAZON, which provides grants to nonprofit organizations confronting hunger throughout the world.
As you look inward during these High Holy Days, MAZON asks that you reach outward to those in need. Please give to MAZON what you would have spent to feed yourself and your family on Yom Kippur. Funds raised will support MAZON’s grants to programs providing food, help and hope to hungry people in our own country, in Israel and around the world, regardless of religious affiliation.
Envelopes will be available at the synagogue and at High Holy Days Service, or donate online: http://www.mazon.org
