Who We Are:
Our Mission:
Our mission is to create a caring Jewish community in accordance with the values of Reconstructionism and to inspire exploration of Jewish spirituality.
Who We Are:
- We affirm our sense of being Jewish through our shared past, and through communal worship, study, and celebration.
- We are egalitarian and inclusive. We address the needs of a wide diversity of Jewish members and interfaith family members.
- We are committed to providing a Jewish education for ourselves and for our children. This role is fundamental to a successful Jewish life in contemporary American society.
- We are a participatory congregation. To strengthen a sense of community, we encourage involvement in democratic governance through study and values-based decision making.
- We take pride in the extent to which our members volunteer to work for the well¬being of the Dor Hadash community.
- We engage in the Jewish tradition of tikkun olam (repairing the world) to improve the lives of others, the environment, and the world around us.
- In our spiritual search many of us see our texts and traditions as a record of human endeavor, sacred but not supernatural in origin. Many Reconstructionists view God as the power within us that encourages self-fulfillment and ethical behavior, the spiritual energy that works through nature and human beings, and the inspiration for all that gives meaning to life.
- As Reconstructionists we are committed to building on Jewish traditions to enhance our lives as contemporary American Jews.
