Membership and Dues
It’s a big decision to invest your hard-earned money in joining a religious community, so it’s natural to have questions about congregational membership dues. Congregation Dor Hadash (A New Generation) seeks to make Judaism relevant and meaningful for today’s Jews and for future generations.

What does it cost to run the synagogue?
|
To understand the dues structure, first consider the annual operating budget of Dor Hadash: approximately $277,000. About 89% of that is the cost of renting our facilities and the salaries of our professional staff: the Rabbi, Education Director, Administrator, and teachers in Gesher School. The balance is for liability insurance, postage, and miscellaneous expenses. We run a very tight ship and keep expenses to a minimum, relying on the generosity of our members who volunteer their time, energy and resources to help us deliver the full range of services to our membership.

What sources of income
keep CDH going? |
Annual income from membership dues and Gesher School fees covers about 67% of our needs; fundraising and income from our Endowment Fund cover the 33% balance. Therefore, membership dues and Gesher School fees are critical to keeping the congregation going.

Our members say...
|
The value of having this community in our lives is beyond measure. For more than 30 years Dor Hadash has been there for us through good times and bad, celebrating simchas — B'nai Mitzvah and a wedding — and comforting us when our parents died. We know we can count on Rabbi Yael and our CDH family to support us. — Marlene and Don
We looked for many years to find a spiritual home that met our family’s needs. Dor Hadash is a place where people of different generations and levels of Judaic background can come together to share in contemporary Jewish life. It is more than a synagogue to us; we are part of a loving and caring community of friends who are more like family. Our 13-year old son loves learning at Gesher School, where children develop a genuine love for Judaism. — Joanna I belong to Dor Hadash because of its emphasis on social justice and how it welcomes all flavors of Jewish identities and families. Jewish tradition is respected, but all beliefs are open for discussion, and we feel free to express our opinions about Judaism and Israel. Singing in the choir, Shir Hadash, and teaching Israeli dance to Gesher school students are both rewarding for me. And Rabbi Yael is awesome! — Jeff |
